  1. I believe that this reading was directly targeting the effect that Television shows have on movie viewings. Like Meghan said, viewers want a deeper connection with the characters, and in movies, there is not enough time to develop that connection or basic understanding. This caused people to watch tv rather than find a good movie to watch. I did, however, find it interesting that the appeal of today’s top series amongst viewers may change the ways that movies are made. I thought movies were doing just fine in how they were set up, but apparently my assumption is wrong. Do you think that movies will completely shut down along with theaters due to this foreshadowing?

    1. Thank you for your response! I agree with your thought that the movies were doing just fine, so this article came as a surprise to read, but after reading it I don’t disagree. In response to your question; I doubt that movies will be shut down, as the author said, they will work side by side with TV.

  2. While taking a look at this presentation and referring back to the reading, I noticed that your claims are pretty spot on! Nice job! While reading, I took my own preferences into consideration and got into contact with my television over movie preference. This whole thing also made me think of “Video Killed the Radio Star”, considering the question is whether or not TV killed cinemas. I prefer television because I can get up and continue the next episode whenever I want, or just keep up at a later time. Movies are commitments and I tend to not like movies unless I’m actually headed to a cinema. Though, the $9 popcorn kinda kills the vibe. Also, the evidence displayed with upcoming movies appealing to more television watchers is a tad heartbreaking to me, because regardless, people are still going to continue to stream the television show.

  3. An absolutely lovely presentation to accompany a captivating read! The thought of an entire industry that has existed for so long at risk, due to the rise of another, is mind-boggling. I find it humorous how the author of this reading has made TV series a role of a villain in itself and movies as the helpless victim. However, I feel as though movies have adapted to one another to assume a symbiotic relationship, in a sense. As an example, many TV series include movies into their development. An end to a season would lead to the release of a movie, and thus a new season would follow, and so on. Additionally, while movies can lack in character development when compared to a series, this can result in a more impactful ending. The horror movie you sat two hours through in a dark movie theater that just unveiled its twist ending can be used as an example. The intertwining of mystery with its plot can improve a movie more than that of a TV series. Releasing additional parts of a movie, like Harry Potter, can also be utilized. I believe movies will not die, but rather be assimilated into TV and provide to an audience in search of minimal character development.

    1. Thanks for the compliment on my presentation! I agree with all of the points you made, and I too, do not believe that the movie industry will fade away anytime soon. I enjoyed the way you used examples to support your view and the movies!

  4. Meghan, you did a really good job at taking the information from the reading and displaying it into a slide show. You were able to put a great amount on each slide to make it look organized and nice. You also were also able to summarize the reading very well throughout your slides. By reading your presentation it definitely got me thinking do I like television shows more than movies? Honestly I think I would ultimately have to go with television shows. Like Ashley said TV shows are something that you can drop and pick back up at any time of your pleasing. Movies are really something you should sit down and finish all at once. I realized that I actually do tend to watch more tv shows than movies. I feel that tv shows are now the bigger hit for people who bing watch tv. I feel that personally movies are a healthier choice, which is honestly so weird to say. But, I can catch myself watching an episode after an episode and staying up several hours than I would personally like to be awake. Altogether, your presentation was wonderful and like I said with Hunter’s I feel you accomplished right what Chernice was looking for. Your presentation gave a perfect summary of our reading that was assigned. I enjoyed how you made the assignment your own and rather entertaining to read. So I have to say wonderful job Megan you did very well. It was a great read.

    1. Meghan I liked your presentation. I enjoyed how you summarized all the information. As a Netflix lover, I appreciate both movies and TV shows. With TV shows I like that I can get immersed in it and become invested in the characters and the plot. I also love the absolute devastation that comes after finishing a show. I feel movies won’t disappear, but rather are slowly finding that they are becoming obsolete. Why spend $20 to go to the movies and get snacks, when you could just get a streaming service and watch whatever you want for about $6.99 per month? In the long run it is cheaper to use streaming services rather than movie theatres.

  5. Meghan, I really enjoyed your presentation! I think you did a very good job on summarizing the reading as well as going further into depth on it. I personally love both movies and television, but I appreciate the ability to become invested in a show and create a relationship with the characters, as I think a lot of other people do. On the other hand, there is definitely something to be said for splurging and going to a movie theater. I don’t think movies will disappear for good, but as time goes on, movie theaters become more and more empty. Overall, there is something to be said for both movies and television. Once again, great job on your presentation!!

  7. Meghann,
First off, I ABSOULUTELY LOVED YOUR SLIDES!! You did such a good job on it! You used helpful, relevant information on the slides, and they were soooo helpful! I enjoyed the way you set up the slides for easy viewing! In regard to the topic, I enjoy both films and shows. With shows, I have more time to get to know characters, and there’s more background with the plot. Shows go more into depth, which I find more appealing than movies. I also believe that shows are more convenient to watch. With movies, it isn’t ideal to stop in the middle and pick back up later. Shows are more slowed pace, so if you miss something, you can easily go back and figure out what happened. I love the feeling of watching a show and getting attached to the characters and falling in love with the plot. I feel there’s more possibilities in shows than movies. Movies tend to stick to one main genre throughout. Shows can be all over the place. In my opinion, I’m not sure why movies are becoming more popular than TV shows. Movies much more expensive to watch, and I’d honestly not go to the theaters because then I get easily bored. Then if I want to see that movie, I have to wait forever for it to come to DVD and even longer for it to be put on a streaming platform. Anyways, I think you did such a good job! I really enjoyed your reading!

  8. Meghan, I loved your presentation. You organized the slides perfectly. I agree with how you organized it by saying how in a television series, viewers have time to develop stronger connections with the characters. Also the shows go further into the plot and therefore gets more attention than movies. Also it is much better to use streaming services as they are cheaper and you get more out of them. Also with shows, you can pick up and leave off as you choose. Which is a little more difficult with a movie. I found that your blog helped me learn a lot.
    Great post!

  9. Meghan, that was an excellent presentation. You did such a great job. You gave a more in depth, and better presented look that the reading didn’t provide. I totally believe that tv is taking over movies. I agree with all of the points you made about tv compared to movies. I always hear about people binging shows on Netflix or Hulu. That’s how content is consumed now. Especially with this whole quarantine deal, everyone is watching all of these tv shows. Like you said, movies will never die off, but times are changing and tv is making a rise. Just like you said, character development is that much better in tv than in movies. Great job, I enjoyed your presentation.
