Ailsa’s Adventure at Hatch Run

Considering all of the Corona Virus concern, I was only allowed to venture to a small conservatory called Hatch Run. This place is known for having summer camps for young children and being a beautiful place year-round for an easy hike. In Warren, there are many places to hike and sight see in nature. There are areas such as the Kinzua Dam, Rim Rock, and Hearts Content. All of these places are unique and offer different aspects of nature. One thing they all have in common is beauty, serenity, and trees.

Hatch Run Conservatory is approximately a fifteen-minute drive north of the town of Warren. Hatch Run is a fantastic place for bird watching, hiking, mountain biking, and fishing. There are a couple different hiking paths to choose from. When I visited the conservatory on Monday afternoon with my friend, we walked along a path with a calm creek on our left and beautiful, tall trees on our right. On the walk we saw a few other people with some adorable dogs which made our walk that much more enjoyable. After walking along the creek, we hiked up a hill and arrived at a grassy area with a decently sized pond. We could hear a couple birds chirping and although it was not very sunny at the time, being out in the fresh air was indescribable. My friend and I sat at a picnic table and talked for a while, just enjoying the outdoors and our time out of the house while we still could. It is incredible how much the sound of leaves rustling, or the sight of green trees and lively wildlife can rejuvenate our minds.

As I write this paper, I am sitting in my room looking out the window and listening to cars going by and birds singing. In a way, I am grateful for this social distancing. Grateful for the chance to see how important the little things in life are and how we seldom appreciate what we have. In this age, I find it even more important to remove myself from social media every now and then and embrace nature and the beautiful people around me.

  1. Ailsa,
Your writing was short and to the point. I don’t really like reading long, boring narratives, so your post was perfect. Your word choice was descriptive and thought out. Instead of putting unnecessary filler words, you did a great job of describing your surroundings with meaningful words. I have never been to or heard about Hatch Run conservatory, but from your writing it feels like I know exactly what it is like there. You described the little details, such as the pond, birds chirping, even the dogs you met on your travels. This helped add to the overall picture and purpose of your writing. Your writing felt peaceful, calm and cleansing. You talked about how nice it was being in the fresh air amid the whole social distancing. I liked your part about the social distancing. We all get so caught up in our daily lives, and social media, we truly do forget to enjoy our surroundings. I enjoyed your pictures that you took. You captured exactly what you described. In means of any advice for your writing, I couldn’t find anything wrong with your writing style! From what I could tell, your writing style seems to fit your personality, which I think is important when we write. You seem to have a calm, yet complex personality which was shown in your writing! I’m really sorry if my comment wasn’t helpful, but my overall purpose of this comment was to say I like your writing style and I really enjoyed your writing:) Have a good day!

  2. Ailsa,
I loved reading about your adventure at hatch run conservatory. Having been there before, our descriptions were spot on. The way you described every accept was perfect, from the creek, to the leaves, to the birds. If there’s one thing I wish you would have done more of it would be talk more about how you felt while walking the trails. my favorite part of your entire blog had to have been the end when you talked about when you were writing this paper. We most definitely tend to over look all the little details in regular every day life, but when we get the chance to slow down and process everything we truly are able to take in the full picture. I can’t wait to read your upcoming blogs. hope you are doing well and I miss seeing your beautiful face.
