  1. Hey Gareth! Nice work, I really liked this presentation. It is a refreshing dive into the craft of storytelling. I am certainly no fiction-piece writer, but I did recently finish a book that I could relate to this. It is called Children of Blood and Bone, a highly recommended read, and features a girl, her brother, a loyal lionaire, and a run-away princess trying to revive magic in a tyrannical country. Without spoiling, the story seems to reflect the Hero Myth path, as the girl risks her life to save millions. This was probably one of the best books I’ve read so far, so I have formed a pretty deep connection with it. Great Job!

  2. Gareth I really enjoyed how you laid out your PowerPoint!!! I also liked the bright colors that you used! I never really thought about how much time and thought goes into story telling, I always thought that creative people could just come up with it. I never realized that there are steps and practical applications to each type of story being told. This could also be because I am not creative, and would almost always write something analytical. This presentation opened my eyes to the other types of writing there are and the structure that goes with them. Great job!!

  3. Hi Gareth! Great powerpoint, it had a really nice flow to it! I found this reading very interesting because it turned out to be something i don’t really know about! I had no clue that there were actual legit steps when writing stories. I also did not know that so much effort and time went into them. Before this reading and your powerpoint i was under the impression that stories are just made up real quick off the top of someone creatives head! That is quite obviously not the case now!Nicely done! i really enjoyed it!

  4. Gareth, I honestly feel like I gain so much knowledge and terminology any time I read something of yours. Especially with descriptors! Anyway, I really liked the full usage of the 7 steps, as they are pretty relevant in writing a story. The personal twists added to this reading and presentation made it all the more enjoyable, as well as understandable from the point of view of an intellectual. Nicely done, Gareth.

    1. I guess I never realized that there were so many steps to storytelling. Let alone laid out ones. I like how you laid them out so it was easy to understand and had examples to base them off of. Storytelling/myths are not my wheelhouse and I feel like I don’t know enough about them. However I am a big reader. One of my all time favorite series is the Percy Jackson series. I would categorize Percy as either a cynical hero or a group oriented hero. Anyway I liked your presentation and maybe this is something I should take more time to look into.

  5. Gareth wonderful presentation. It was put together perfectly. The information on the slides flowed so perfectly together. I also enjoyed that there were colorful and not bland. I never really took into consideration how much time it takes someone to write a story. When you listed the steps it opened my eyes to how long the process truly is. I really like how you listed out the seven steps. Your power point went into deeper explanation than the reading itself did, which I enjoy. Writing stories do take a lot of time. All the steps are definitely important when writing a story. I feel that if I am ever writing a story I will take the time and follow these guidelines. Thank you for the wonderful presentation I learned a lot and it definitely has taught me a lot. Writers I feel definitely don’t get enough credit for their work. Anyone that is able to write a story no matter how bad it is deserves some credit. Because, personally it would take me a long time to write a novel with the ways I over think things. Wonderful presentation. I feel that after reading this presentation it has made me want to read a good book and maybe attempt making my own story, even if it isn’t too long.

  6. I honestly found this presentation very interesting. This kind of thing is definitely not in my comfort zone and I found all of the different steps so eye opening because I hardly ever think about story telling in such depth. It got me thinking that it would be sort of fun to try writing something out of my comfort zone, also very scary. In your presentation you mentioned how much you enjoyed the healing myth, would you ever consider writing something like this? Great presentation, Gareth!!

  7. Hey Gareth, miss you buddy. Your presentation was very well put together and it contained a lot of information from the reading that I thought was important. I never knew how complicated creating a story could be and you simplified it perfectly in this PowerPoint. I think the most interesting part about the presentation was how I could picture so many different stories that I’ve experienced and be able to link them to each point you made. Also, I like the use of symbolism in stories when they use animals to create characteristics. Thank you for this presentation, you did great.

  8. Hey, Gareth! I hope that quarantine isn’t going too bad for you. I liked your PowerPoint! It went way into depth, and I really liked that. I never knew how many steps here were to story telling. I know I definitely don’t do half of the steps. However, I think this will definitely come in handy next time I write a story. I agree with you about the healing myth being the most interesting. It’s simple while being classy, and like you said, elegant. Good job!

  9. Hi! To be honest, when I was scrolling through everyone’s corona diaries, I did not even see your presentation until now; however, the way you set up your PowerPoint made the ideas flow rhythmically from one myth to another. I never knew there were different types of myths, and quite honestly, I really did not care. The writing type alone gives the story its own unique type of fascination. I do agree that the healing myth has its own aura. It is very calming and yet relatable. Amazing presentation.

  10. Sorry I just saw your presentation. It was a little disguised by everyone’s Corona posts. Anyway, I love how you set up your PowerPoint. You did a great job by going into depth about everything. I was completely unaware of all the steps involved in writing a story. You did a great job linking everything together and making it flow. It was very interesting to read. I know I would never have the patience to complete a story.
    Great Post!

  11. Gareth, I really enjoyed reading your PowerPoint. It was well organized and provided in depth detail on the steps of writing a story. Before reading your post I guess I never really thought it through. I just assumed that stories were spontaneous and unplanned. You have shown that there is a lot that goes into writing stories, even if it is not always shown. Showing how each of the 7 steps is used gave me a better understanding of proper story writing. Really great post!

  12. Great job Gareth! This power point was very pleasing for the eyes and very easy to take in. The way that you portrayed it was something I haven’t ever seen before. I also enjoyed how in depth you went with it so we could understand it. This way of telling a story will help out with making sure we have all the key components. Great work.
