Very nice presentation, James. I feel like it captured your essence perfectly and represented you in a fashionable way. I certainly noticed myself reading it in your voice, as if you were speaking it to me, since the presentation reflected you so well. I agree with you on the statement that easy access to an informative platform that can quickly guide us to subjects we wish to find answers to does not negatively influence our intelligence. It is undoubtedly harder for older generations to recognize this, given they were raised without such technology. In fact, I believe this early exposure to technology advances our ability to comprehend and pick apart relevant information in texts. I await to see what our technology-driven future holds for us. Great job!
Wonderful presentation James. It was very well put together. I can tell that you spent some time creating this power point. Your topic was one of the ones I definitely found interesting because it was able to tie into what Megan’s was on. Google has always been a resource that we have used for research with school projects or even simple questions we may have. But, is google making us stupid? I personally feel that google makes finding the right sources to work off of for research papers much easier so it is creating people to become much lazier. I don’t really feel like it is making us stupid though. By reading the articles on google we are obtaining new information that we did not know before. But, google can be abused by some users. Some people plagiarize work and those people I feel are becoming stupid with google. Another example why google is making us lazy rather than stupid is because of how much faster it is than taking the time to read through books and notes. With just a few clicks you have your answering but with books it could take 30 min to a couple hours. With google I do think I definitely read less than the people who didn’t have google. I feel that the people who researched through books are definitely more hard working than someone who only used google. Great power point I enjoyed reading through what you had to say on your opinion.
Very nice presentation, James! You did a very good job of taking the main points from the reading and making the presentation your own. I don’t think the internet is making us stupid, although we all depend on it very heavily. I think that as time changes, so does researching, and why should we be expected not to use the internet if it is at our disposal? Using the same tool/research method does get repetitive and it’s not Google’s fault that we have latched onto it so much, and rely on it for so many things. Honestly, I just think people see the internet and search engines in a negative way because it is something relatively new, and society needs time to adjust to these things. Again, I really enjoyed this presentation and it was interesting to compare it to the other article about Google making us stupid.
Great presentation!!! I completely agree with the contents of your PowerPoint. As I mentioned in my previous comment about google making us stupid, I feel as though it is a resource and allows us to easily access information. It does not make us any less intelligent it just minimizes the need to memorize information, when it is always at our finger tips within our smart phones
I HIGHLY agree with the argument about repetitive and boring research and that making us turn to the internet for relief. I think that that was a HUGE realization for this reading, especially with it being so common nowadays. It’s like when your grandma yells at you because you get your information from the internet, but a lot of times the internet is where so many opinions collide and where facts are verified. I personally don’t think Google makes us stupid, I think it makes us more curious and eager to fill our brains with intelligence and things we didn’t know, rather than live without knowing.
Lovely powerpoint, James. I fully agree that we expect every answer to be found in an instant. When it is not, we get frustrated and blame technology. Then, hate spreads and false rumors go around that said program lags or does not work. In part, I do agree technology is making us stupid. It is simple to look up an answer, write it down quick, and move on to the next question while not retaining any useful information;however, it is not the fact that google is physically making us stupid. We are only maintaining the level of stupidity we currently have and not gaining extra knowledge.
James, great presentation. I completely agree that we fully expect to be able to find the answer to everyone of our questions on the internet instantly. We often get mad when we cannot find it. I think that technology is playing a part in our stupidity. We hardly retain any of the knowledge that find on the internet. Furthermore we do not need to do any actual research so we know nothing about our question other than it’s answer. Often times we do not even know why the answer is right or we do not look any further to check and see if it is correct. I agree with you about boring and repetitive material makes us less likely to continue research or find answers. I do not think the internet itself is making us stupid but more or less how we use it and rely on it for quick notice answers.
Great Post!
Good presentation Jimmy! I liked how it was short and to the point, but had all of the necessary information. I guess Google doesn’t technically make us stupid, just more reliant. Technology has changed so much over the years. That’s why I hate when people patronize you for using Google or other search engines for research. We are just using the resources available to our generation, no different than when people used encyclopedias for research. If we have the ability to use it then why not. The reason that Google gets so much backlash is due to a generational difference. Older people just don’t understand the technology and aren’t willing to embrace that times have changed. I also liked how this came as an afterword to Megan’s reading. Again, great presentation!
James, great presentation. I completely agree with what you had to say. Google is not making us stupid. It is however to use google for every little thing we do. You said it in your post that it is just a tool and something available for everyone to use. It’s kind of similar to the gun law debate. Guns don’t kill people, people kill people. Just like google doesn’t make you stupid, but the way you use it can. Great post!
